As 2014 comes to a swift ending, we've come a long ways this year in term of Sports and new records set. The World Cup blessed us with its presence this year, as one of the biggest Sporting events in the World. Soccer is still relatively new sport in the United States, but for the rest of the world, its the Main sport; The NFL or the NBA of the world to put it in terms of popularity. Attendance records were through the roof as Brazil hosted the 2014 World Cup and many new faces and teams showed up with their game faces on to take on rivaling countries and club team mates alike.
According to Google Trends, one of the Top searched terms for Sports Gifs has to do with a special Coach who brought his team to the World and impressed many neighboring nations. But before we get to far down that road, lets re-cap some of the top stats of the 2014 World Cup and how it impacted the World and the U.S.A.
- Team USA made it to the Quarter Finals against Belgium, in which Tim Howard, USA's Goal-keeper, made an astonishing and record setting 16 Saves to top the All-time lists of Saves in 1 game in World Cup history! Not only did Tim Howard make history with all those saves, Team USA also made history as well when 24.7 million people watched their previous match against Portugal according to ESPNFC. The match against Belgium could've made history if it wasn't during the week, but these numbers are just a testament of how far Soccer has come in the USA and the rise of it.

Germany ended up going on to Win the World Cup against Argentina. On top of Germany winning the World cup, one of their players, Miroslav Klose, became the leading Scorer in World Cup history having scored 16 goals in his combined World cup matches.

Luis Suarez has been known to have bitten other players on the Soccer Pitch (Field) in previous games and even served a 10-match ban prior to this incident when biting rival team member Branislav Ivanović, who plays for Chelsea, in April of 2013. Luis Suarez seemed to have been upset and in the heat of the moment when he bit Giorgio Chiellini, Italy's Defender, in which he received another 4-month Ban from playing soccer and 9-match international Ban. As we mentioned above, the 2014 World Cup brought us some great memories, great plays and some fairly funny moments. According to Google Trends, Mexico's National teams Coach, Miguel Herrera was the topped searched for Sports Gif in 2014. Miguel Herrera lead Mexico to the Round-of-16 in the 2014 World Cup, eventually losing to Netherlands by a 1 Goal margin. This feat alone secured Miguel Herrera's future with Mexico's National team by eventually getting a 4-year contract Extension to coach Mexico's National team up to the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The real question is, Why did the Coach of the Mexican National Soccer team end up Trending on Google during 2014.
